Exhibition Title | Eye and Mind of Korean Contemporary Art II – Reinstatement of Realism Period | 28 January – 28 February 2016 Venue | Gana Insa Art Center
Once prevailed in the Korean art world of the 1980, a retrospective exhibition of Minjung Misool (transliteration of people’s art) is now being held in Gana Art Center, Insa-dong. As the title suggests, the ambivalent word “realism” could possibly cause terminological confusion, because it comprises a large part of properties that are constituent elements of human perception when he or she confronts a physical thing. Such confusion arises when we contradistinguish Minjung with other forms of art that rely on faithful depiction of the world. It should also be noted that the present interest in Minjung is not seemingly derived from academic side, but rather the Korean art market’s need for pioneering new products after the Dansaekhwa fever (transliteration of monochrome painting) is the reason behind the current situation.
