Exhibition Title | Kim Whanki Line • Surface • Dot
Period | 4 December 2015 – 10 January 2016
Venue | Gallery Hyundai, Seoul
This exhibition focuses on Kim Whanki, a painter who is regarded as the leader of Korean abstract art, giving an emphasis on the works he produced in his latter years. Ranging from early 1960’s to 1974, it well traces how the painter developed his abstract style after settled in New York in 1963. It is true that around the year of 1965, he named most of his paintings as “Work”, and began to show his underlying feelings correspond to the city and its art scene. It was a natural consequence that the realisation of these abstract paintings made of innumerable dots is nothing but his longing for Korea.
