How Korean ink painters developed techniques to re-evaluate aesthetic value that is regarded as innate properties in the field of ink painting and the painters' interest towards new media in the liberation period have always been interesting subject matters for art historians in Korea. A career of Jung Takyoung (1937-2012), an ink painter who mainly worked on the genre, validates such criteria, showing multifarious aspects. At the Deoksugung Branch of MMCA, there is a retrospective exhibition of Jung to give a wide perspective on his awareness of the problems. It will provide some vantage points to the viewer in the regard of seeking future directions of the field.
